The snow has melted, spring is in the air, and we are preparing for a whole season of fun activities at the Library Field! This May, we will be inviting members to come plant 19 different species of native trees and shrubs with us, thanks to the NYSDEC spring seedling sale. In order to do that, we are seeking some burly, seasoned, and good-spirited library workers to help us prepare some of these tangled, overgrown, messy areas we wish to restore.
Join us for a full day of work and fun. We’ll have a campfire going all day, and we’ll break out our giant cauldron and prepare a hot meal in the woods that you’ll remember for a long time (hopefully in a good way!). Yes, this all requires elbow grease — but you’ll be a part of stewarding, shaping, and caring for this wonderful new Library Field that we all share. You’ll meet old pals and make new friends and colleagues — and you are 100% guaranteed to learn something new while we talk and work together.
When you sign up, please indicate whether or not you have work gloves and any other tools that you might be able to share in the spirit of our commons. Pruning shears and pickaxes are particularly helpful for thoroughly clearing difficult areas. Because we will be working with tools in the rugged outdoors, participants will be required to fill out our volunteer waiver form.
The Library Field is at 249 Croton Dam Road, in New Castle, NY. More details about parking and access will be made available upon registration.
