Concopia is a deck of curiosities and questions that encourages us to reimagine and reenchant the world. They can be used for quiet contemplation, for innovation processes that invite us to rethink the world with zeal and ingenuity, and for deep conversations about civics, endangered skills, the wonders of nature, and the meaning of life.
During this session, we will experience how Concopia Cards can guide us through great conversations in and out of our library work as we wander through the Library Field. Along the way, we will explore how the beautiful nature around us can foster presence, deep connection, trust, and a sense of belonging.
Most of the session will be spent walking and talking with other participants, using Concopia Cards to spark the vital conversations of our time. There will also be brief talks by Concopia co-founder Nadja Pass along the way.
Together, we will explore:
- What are Concopia Cards, and why are the natural curiosities depicted on the cards so important for sparking conversations?
- How might a natural setting foster deeper and more meaningful conversations?
- Why and how does walking together inspire us to explore our inner libraries?
Nadja Pass is a Danish civic designer and salonnière. She has been exploring the art of conversation for decades. Her work ranges from creating her own designs, such as Concopia Cards, to working with museums, NGOs, and government departments to foster great conversations and civic desire. Her exhibition, The Concopian Chamber of Wonders, will be on display at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C., in September and October 2026.
Participants should bring drinking water & a sack lunch.
Registration is capped at 20 people; all ages welcome. The Library Field is at 249 Croton Dam Road, in New Castle, NY. Participants will meet in the parking lot of the Sunny Ridge Preserve, and we will all walk in together.
